The Israeli government has reported seizing $1.7 million in cryptocurrencies from wallets linked to the Iranian military and the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

According to the Israeli Defense Minister, the confiscation of cryptocurrencies was carried out with the help of the Chainalysis analytical company. This was the first time that assets were confiscated from Hezbollah and the Iranian branch of Al-Quds, the company said.

The confiscation was approved by Defense Secretary Yoav Gllant a few weeks ago. At the same time, the Israeli intelligence Mossad participated in the operation.

“This is the first event of such a magnitude that the financing infrastructure of Hezbollah and the Iranian unit of Al-Quds was destroyed. The terrorists used millions of dollars, but now we have these funds,” Gallant said.

The list of wallets from which funds were confiscated includes over 40 addresses. The money was confiscated in the form of USDT stablecoins on the Tron network. According to Chainalysis, the money was transferred from fiat to over-the-counter exchanges and then to Hezbollah addresses on major cryptocurrency exchanges.

Earlier, the Central Bank of Israel proposed to divide supervisory functions between several state bodies, as well as to oblige issuers of stablecoins to obtain a European license to operate.
