The Israel will maintain military control of the Gaza Strip after the end of the war, providing freedom to operate similarly to the way it currently does at West Bankthe Israeli Defense Minister said today Joab Gallant to the members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
“After the war, when it's over, I think it is abundantly clear that Hamas will not be in control of the Gaza Strip. Israel will control this Palestinian enclave militarily, but it will not control it in a political sense,” the minister said.
“When we talk about a military freedom operation, look at what happened tonight in Jenin,” Gallant added, referring to raid by Israeli forces inside a hospital in the West Bank, where Israeli forces killed three “terrorists”.
Israeli forces sent today commandos disguised as medical personnel and in civilian clothes in a hospital in Jeninto execute three men, whom they said were “terrorists” and that one of them was linked to Hamas.
“This is the military freedom operation at its highest level, and yet we do not control the area in the political sense,” Gallant said. “This is possible (also in Gaza) and it will take time,” he added, according to APE-MPE.
He added that current operations to locate and destroy Hamas' existing military infrastructure “are finite” and are proceeding despite significant challenges.
