In recent weeks, the ex-BBB and hypnologist Pyong Lee made a revelation on her Instagram stories. The artist said that he has not used deodorant for 15 years because, according to him, Koreans do not exude a bad smell from their armpits.
Pyong explained the reason on his social media. “Nothing Koreans smell like, because we’re missing a gene,” she said. However, the influencer was asked why he has already demonstrated using aerosol. The illusionist soon replied that the product would be for the feet. “Feet we can have,” he said.
On Instagram, Pyong’s explanation yielded several comments in his recent publications. “The joy of being able to lift your armpit without worrying about the odor. It doesn’t stink”, “Does it really not stink?” and “God has his favorites, I wish I didn’t stink too”, are just a few that can still be visualized.
But is the information correct? the dermatologist Isabella Baltazar an effective member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD), explains that according to information from the recent study by “BMC Genetics”, most Koreans, as well as some Chinese, have an alteration in the ABCC11 gene of the axillary apocrine glands, responsible for the Apocrine sweat – source of underarm odor.
“People with a mutation in the ABCC11 gene have changes in sweat lipids and have little or no body odor,” he confirms.
The specialist also says that, although sweat is odorless in any individual, it can smell when it is decomposed by bacteria into volatile acids on the surface of the skin or also according to food intake, such as curry, garlic, onion and alcohol.
“There are no reports that we Brazilians have the same genetic alterations as Koreans and Chinese. It is also worth mentioning that when we are faced with bromhidrosis (bad odor from the armpits), we need to see a dermatologist, as there is treatment with topical, oral and antiseptic antibiotics ”, he says.
