“Our revenge for the martyr Sayed Razi will be nothing less than the removal of the Zionist regime”Salami added in a televised speech at the funeral, stressing that the deceased had defended the Muslim nation for nearly 33 years.
His death comes amid the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel, Tehran's sworn enemy, and Hamas, the Islamist Palestinian movement backed by the “resistance front”, in which Iran is mainly involved.
“I hope that soon, God willing, the great and honorable Palestinian fighters will eliminate the geographical and political name of this evil and fake regime,” Salami added.
Thousands of people had gathered today to pay tribute to Mousavi in ​​central Tehran's Imam Hussein Square, chanting: “Death to America, Death to Israel.”
Mousavi's body was flown from Syria to the Shiite holy city of Najaf in Iraq yesterday, Wednesday, before being flown to Tehran for burial.
On Monday, an Israeli military spokesman declined to comment on Mousavi's death, but said the military had taken whatever action was necessary to defend the country.
Since the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas following its militants' bloody and unprecedented attack on Israeli soil on October 7, Iranian-backed groups have escalated their operations against Israel, while others, including militias in Iraq, threaten US interests.
For years, Israel has carried out strikes against targets it says are linked to Iran in Syria, where Tehran's influence has grown since its support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the civil war that broke out in Syria in 2011.
