Iran’s President Mazoud Pezheskian will make an official visit to Moscow on January 17

Iranian President Massoud Pezheskian is set to visit Moscow on January 17 and sign a cooperation agreement with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Russia’s state-run RIA news agency reported today, citing the Iranian ambassador to Russia. Russia has cultivated closer ties with Iran and other countries hostile to the US, such as North Korea, since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in October that Moscow and Tehran intended to sign an agreement that would include closer defense cooperation. The US accused Tehran in September of delivering short-range ballistic missiles to Russia for use against Ukraine, and Washington imposed sanctions on ships and companies said to be involved in Iranian arms deliveries. Tehran denies supplying Moscow with the missiles.
