Iran’s first all-female flight lands in Mashhad

In a historic first, an all-female flight landed in Mashhad, a city in northeastern Iran, on Sunday (22).

The Aseman Airlines plane was led by Captain Shahrazad Shams, the country’s first female pilot, and landed at Mashhad International Airport, according to local media reports.

The flight, called “Iran Banoo”, was crewed by an all-female team and carried 110 passengers.

The landing coincided with the date on which the birthday of Hazrat Fatimah Zahra, daughter of the Prophet Muhammad, is celebrated. The same day is also celebrated as Mother’s Day and Women’s Day in Iran.
