Iranian medical examiner says Mahsa Amini did not die from blows to body

The report of a coroner Iranian denied that Mahsa Amini died from blows to the head and limbs while in the custody of the Morale Police Will and linked his death to pre-existing medical conditions, state media said on Friday.

The death of 22-year-old Amini in police custody sparked three weeks of protests, marking the biggest challenge for Iran’s clerical leaders in years.

The girl’s father said she suffered leg bruises and held the police responsible for her death.

The report of coroner, in turn, claims that the death “was not caused by any blow to the head and limbs”, but did not detail whether she suffered any injuries.

Amini was arrested in Tehran on 13 September for wearing “improper attire” and died three days later.

Referring to the day Amini passed out in custody, the coroner points that she briefly regained consciousness, but adds that “cardiopulmonary resuscitation was ineffective in the critical first minute, resulting in brain damage.”

The report looked at preexisting medical conditions linked to a brain tumor for which she had been operated on when she was 8 years old. “She died due to multiple organ failure caused by cerebral hypoxia.”

Police, who have enforced strict dress codes since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, denied she suffered any harm, saying earlier that she suffered a heart attack.
