An agent from the Israeli intelligence service Mossad was executed this Saturday (16) in the province of Sistan-Balochistan, southeastern Iran, the official IRNA news agency reported.
“This person communicated with foreign services, specifically the Mossad, collecting confidential information and, with the participation of associates, provided documents to foreign services, including the Mossad,” the agency said without mentioning the person’s name.
The report states that the accused handed over confidential information to a “Mossad official” with the aim of “propaganda for groups and organizations opposed to the Islamic Republic”. He did not say where the alleged delivery had taken place.
It was also unclear when the person was arrested, but IRNA said an appeal had been rejected.
The execution was carried out in a prison in Zahedan, Sistan-Balochistan, and came a day after Baluch militants attacked a police station in the province, killing 11 security staff and injuring others.
A state funeral was held Saturday for the men in the town of Rask, where the attack took place, according to state television.
Two militants from the Jaish al-Adl group were also killed in the clashes that followed.
Sistan-Balochistan province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan, has long been the scene of frequent clashes between security forces and Sunni militants. The population is predominantly Sunni Muslim, while the majority of Iranians are Shia.
