Days after incidents of women in Iran throwing off their hijabs and being arrested, Tehran announced it was opening clinics to “cure” them so they wouldn’t do the act again. The “Guardian” wrote that the “Women and Family Department of the Central Administration for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice”, headed by Mehri Talebi Darestani, made this announcement. “Women who violate the mandatory hijab law will be taken to clinics for psychotherapy… The clinics will offer scientific and psychological treatment to remove the hijab,” the announcement read, among other things. Since then, fierce reactions have erupted around the world, and not without reason, for the new measure which is a shift towards the Middle Ages, if not something worse.
