Iran denies accusations that it was involved in the assassination attempt on Trump

Iran rejects as “baseless and malicious” the information reported earlier by CNN, according to which the US intelligence services were informed in the previous weeks of an Iranian plot to kill former President Donald Trump. The CNN report points out that there is no indication that the 20-year-old attacker at Trump’s campaign speech in Pennsylvania was connected to the plan. The White House declined to comment, but a spokesman for the Security Council recalled that the Iranian threats against the former president and officials of his administration date back years and are related to Tehran’s desire to avenge the killing of General Soleimani in January 2020. “For the Islamic Republic of Iran, Trump is a criminal who must be prosecuted and convicted in a court of law for ordering the killing of General Soleimani,” the Iranian delegation to the UN said in a statement to Reuters news agency.
