Tests for the detection of Covid-19 can be deducted from the Income Tax as health expenses. However, taxpayers should be aware of some details.
Not all types of tests are accepted by the IRS to be included in the declaration. Those made in pharmacies, for example, cannot be deducted.
Accepted tests are those that have invoices issued by laboratories or hospitals. “This invoice must include the taxpayer’s CPF or the CPF of a dependent”, says tax lawyer Cláudio Leite Pimente.
The lawyer points out that it is necessary to keep the note for a period of five years, during which time the IRS can contest the taxpayer’s expenses.
Pimentel also recommends that the precise indication of the laboratory or hospital where the test was performed, with the CNPJ, be made to avoid future problems. “The care that must exist at the time of the declaration is in the details,” he said.
The deadline for submitting the 2022 Income Tax Declaration Generator Program starts on March 7 and runs until April 29. The IRS predicts 34.1 million declarations this year.
