The IPC-S (Consumer Price Index – Weekly) dropped 0.95% in the third week of August said the Brazilian Institute of Economics of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (Ibre-FGV) this Tuesday (23).
In the previous week, the index fell by 1.28% and, in the first period of the month, fell by 1.13%.
The Food group continues to show deceleration in prices, with an increase of 0.38% in the third week, compared to an advance of 0.85% in the previous period.
Other groups showed decrease in their rates of change were Communication (-0.46% to -0.74%) and Apparel (0.49% to 0.35%) had decrease in their rates of change. Among them, the study highlights the behavior of dairy products (8.36% to 5.41%), mobile phone tariff (-2.06% to -2.51%) and belts and bags (0.42% to – 0.58%).
On the other hand, five of the eight classes of expenditure that make up the index registered increases in their rates of change, leading to a deceleration of the weekly decline. The biggest contribution came from the Education, Reading and Recreation group, whose rate dropped from 4.99% in the second quadrissemana to a drop of 2.24% in the third.
The survey also highlights the behavior of the air ticket item, which fell by 13.34% in the third week of the month, compared to a decline of 29.33% in the previous period.
The following groups also recorded an increase in their rates of change: Transport (-4.99% to -4.31%), Housing (-0.41% to -0.25%), Health and Personal Care (0.70% to 0.77%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.34% to 0.35%).
In these expense categories, it is worth highlighting the behavior of the items: gasoline (-16.45% to -14.34%), residential electricity tariff (-3.66% to -3.07%), hygiene and care items personnel (1.08% to 1.48%) and religious and funeral services (0.22% to 0.60%).
The August IPC-S, with data collected up to the 31st, will be released on September 1st.
