International trip without passport: What destinations accept entry with ID?

Brazilians can travel to foreign countries without having to have passport in hand. In all, Nine countries accept the national identity card known as the RG for the entry of individuals in their territories in Tourism Travels .

The entry permission with RG only is a facility granted between certain Mercosur member and associated countries . The agreement aims to facilitate the traffic of citizens in neighboring nations and deepen ties between countries.

What are the rules for entry with RG?

According to Brazilian government portalon tourism trips, the passport is dismissed as long as ID card issued less than 10 years ago and whose photography still fully identifies the holder.

According to the document agreed between the Mercosur countries, if the photograph generates questions about the identity of the carrier, the presentation of another document may be requested.

The Brazilian government also points out that documents such as CNH, OAB, CRM and Certificate will be denied for entry into the countries mentioned, regardless of the reason for the trip.

It is noteworthy that the RG (General Registration) is the popular name of the ID card. Brazilian citizens who have the ID can use it by 2032, the year it will be discontinued.

Since 2022 the new National Identity Card (CIN) which uses the CPF number as a single identification throughout the national territory. CIN can also serve as a travel document between the countries of the Mercosur agreement and its first paper emission is free.
