“Inside Out 2” Becomes First Animated Film to Reach $1 Billion Worldwide

After several records, “Inside Out 2” has achieved a new feat. The production became the first animated film to reach US$ 1 billion (around R$ 5.4 billion) at the international box office. In total, the film grossed US$ 1.6 billion (around R$ 8.7 billion) in theaters. The data is from Box Office Mojo.

Among the achievements achieved by the title that premiered in the second half of June are: tenth biggest box office in the history of cinema, biggest box office of all time in Brazil and Pixar’s biggest grosser.

The film follows on from “Inside Out” from 2015. The plot has a time jump in relation to the first film, and the protagonist Riley is now a teenager. Along with her maturity, the young woman’s mind control room is undergoing demolition to make way for new emotions.

The familiar Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who have long run a successful operation, are unsure how to feel when the new tenants — Anxiety, Envy, Boredom and Shame — arrive on the scene.
