The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning for a sharp drop in temperatures in Rio Grande do Sul over the next few days. The state is expected to face an intense cold front starting next Monday (13).
Following the forecast cold front, a mass of cold and dry air is expected to enter the region, causing a sharp drop in temperatures and potentially reducing the possibility of rain next week.
Still on Monday, the temperature in part of the state should not exceed 13 °C. In the city of Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region, maximum temperatures should fluctuate between 16°C and 18°C.
Temperatures tend to drop further, reaching 3 °C and 4 °C, in the region of the campaign and Serra Gaucha on Tuesday morning (14). There is a possibility of frost in these areas, including on the border with Uruguay. On this day, the minimum in the capital should be 8 °C.
Some cities in the Serra Gaucha will not register more than 10 °C on Tuesday.
The cold and dry air gains intensity on Wednesday (15). With the possibility of moderate to strong frost in some places, dawn may register 0°C to 1°C. Minimum temperatures will be around 2°C in the campaign region and southeastern mountains. In the afternoon, much of the state is expected to record low temperatures.
