Information helps to combat the invisibility of bisexuals, says actress Ana Hikari

Next Friday (23) marks the celebration of Bisexual Visibility Day.

The date works to explore issues faced by bisexual people inside and outside the LGBTQIA+ community.

In an interview with CNN Radio in No Plural +, actress Ana Hikari stated that “those who are bisexual also suffer prejudice.”

“This issue of not admitting that it exists is the invisibility of our existence, so the importance of having this day, to say that we are here, this discussion is important”, he said.

She says that she decided to speak publicly about her sexual orientation precisely to inform people.

According to Hikari, she grew up thinking that “being straight was okay”, but that she always had female feelings and missed having a public bisexual reference.

“As a teenager, when I questioned my sexuality the most, if I had a public person reference, maybe it would have been easier, I would understand that prejudiced comments didn’t need to shake me, because my existence was normal.”

Ana evaluates that “every time a public person talks about it, it’s to communicate that their existence is valid, that’s what I try to do, bring information, tell people that we’re normal too.”

The actress rejects the phrase that being bisexual is “just a phase”.

“This statement is wrong, as if the person I’m relating to at that moment defines my sexual orientation, it’s not the saliva I exchange that defines it.”

Within the LGBTQIA+ community, Ana Hikari also sees that there is a lack of space for bisexuality to be treated as a priority: “It is necessary to look with empathy for the other letters of the acronym”.
