The Rio Civil Police concluded the investigation and indicted digital influencer Vitor Vieira Belarmino, 30 years old, for intentional homicide (when there is the intention to kill), fleeing the scene of the accident and failure to provide assistance.
Five women who were inside the vehicle were also indicted for failure to provide assistance. The case was investigated and concluded by the 42nd DP (Recreio dos Bandeirantes), under the command of delegate Rodrigo de Barros Piedras Lopes.
Vitor ran over and killed physiotherapist Fábio Toshiro Kikuda, 42, who had gotten married hours earlier. Fábio and his wife, Bruna Villarinho, were crossing Lúcio Costa Avenue, near Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the west zone of Rio, when the accident occurred.
The couple had left their bags at the hotel where they were staying for their honeymoon. After checking into the hotel, they decided to walk along the shore. While they were crossing the road holding hands, Vitor was run over and died at the scene. The accident was recorded by a security camera and witnesses told the police that the car was speeding and driving dangerously.
Vitor was driving a BMW at 109 km/h when Fábio was hit. However, investigations indicate that before the accident the car reached 160 km/h. At the time, the speed limit on the road was 70 km/h. The Rio City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Transportation, announced that it will reduce the maximum speed to 60 km/h.
In July, the Rio de Janeiro court issued an arrest warrant against the driver and since then he has been considered a fugitive.
THE CNN tries to contact Vitor’s defense. In July, lawyer Gabriel Habib, who represents the influencer, said that he was not drunk and was driving within the speed limit for the road. The defense also stated that Vitor did not provide assistance because he was afraid of being lynched.
