Influencer hears cries of ‘help’ while recording stories and helps save shipwreck victims in RJ

Influencer Laura Alvarenga recorded calls for help from victims of a shipwreck in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro. The influencer, who was on board a cruise, heard screams of ‘help’ while recording stories for social media.

In the video, she begins unpretentiously recording the sea, when she hears calls for help, which she couldn’t identify where they were coming from. Soon after, she called reception to tell them what had happened, while a friend ran to notify an employee.

In the continuation of the stories, Laura shows an aid boat from the cruise heading towards the victims of the sinking, who turned on a light to better be seen, as it was night.

The influencer ends her stories by venting: “I’m in shock. If someone told me they went through this in their life, I wouldn’t believe it. But thank God it worked”, says Laura.

About the shipwreck

On Sunday (11/19), the Rio de Janeiro Fire Department was called to search for a missing fishing boat. The wrecked vessel was found on Jorge Grego Island, in Angra dos Reis, with only one crew member dead.

With the help of the influencer, hours later the other six victims were found adrift. After receiving first aid, the group was taken to hospitals in the region. None of the crew is at risk of losing their lives.

The boat had left on Saturday (18) to carry out fishing activities, but was hit by strong winds and became adrift — the gale reached 80 km/h. The group was made up of residents of Barra Mansa, Volta Redonda, Barra do Piraí and São José dos Campos.

The causes of the accident are being investigated by the Brazilian Navy and the Civil Police.
