In three days, nine people die in confrontation with police officers in Bahia

In three days, Bahia recorded at least nine deaths resulting from clashes between police and civilians. This Wednesday alone (13) there were six deaths, a number that brought the total number of deaths in December to 22, an average of more than one death per day in shootings.

According to the state’s Civil and Military police, they were all suspected of involvement in crimes, and died during a fightback after opening fire on the agents.

Group suspected of bank robberies

On Wednesday afternoon, a group of five men was located by military police in Jequié, 367 km from Salvador. According to information from the PM, the agents were patrolling BR-116 when they spotted three vehicles.

The occupants, upon noticing the approach of the vehicles, would have separated and entered roads close to the city’s access. Police followed two of the cars. When they were reached, the passengers disembarked and began shooting.

“There was a retaliation and, after the exchange of gunfire, five injured suspects were found, who were immediately taken to Prado Valadares Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. The third car managed to escape,” said the PM.

According to the version presented by the police, the individuals were from other states and are accused of involvement in crimes against financial institutions. Their names were not released.

Two 38-caliber revolvers, two 12-gauge shotguns and a 380 pistol were seized from them, in addition to the two vehicles. The material was sent to the 9th CORPIN, where the incident was recorded.

Accused of killing trans woman and trader

Also on Wednesday, the Civil Police clarified the homicides of businessman Gerson Leopoldino Andrade and a trans woman, identified only as Bruna, in Cosme de Farias, after an operation that ended with one death.

According to police information, the two homicides took place on August 13 and 25 this year. The criminals are being investigated for their involvement in eight more murders in the same region.

“Alan Venicius Santos, “Bambi”, was one of the leaders of the criminal group and had two outstanding arrest warrants”, informed the Civil Police. According to the agents’ version, the police officers were shot at while carrying out legal measures, which led to a confrontation.

“The killer was shot, taken to a health unit, but did not resist.” A CNN tries to confirm whether Alan arrived at the scene alive, but the name of the health unit was not revealed.

According to delegate Zaira Pimentel, from the 1st Homicide Police Station (Atlântico), the main reason for the homicides would be retaliation.

“As determined up to the current phase of the investigation, the criminal group murdered Gerson Leopoldino because he did not accept paying a type of fee to carry out commercial activity in the neighborhood”, stated the delegate.

Bruna, the trans woman who was also murdered, reportedly died after buying drugs from drug dealers from a rival group.

With Alan, a 40 caliber pistol, drugs and cell phones were seized. The material was sent for examination at the Technical Police Department (DPT). Another person involved in the crimes was also arrested in Salvador, in the Northeast neighborhood of Amaralina.
