United States President Donald Trump criticized the statements of Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding Russian domain recognition of Crimea and accused the Ukrainian leader of preventing a ceasefire agreement in the conflict.
Trump has classified the situation of Ukrainians as “terrible” and said that Zelensky can choose between “peace, or fight and lose the whole country.”
Vance has asked the territorial lines between the two countries to be close to the form that are in this period of the war.
“Now, of course this means that both Ukrainians and Russians will have to give up part of the territories they currently have,” said the US Vice President.
At the moment, the Russians dominate Mariupol, Luhansk and Donetsk – besides Crimea, who was already controlled by Putin since before the conflict began in 2022. This represents about 18% of the Ukrainian territory.

The government of Volodymyr Zelensky, however, strongly refuses the idea and reinforces that the region belongs to the “people of Ukraine”, but states that it is ready to negotiate as long as it does not represent a surrender.
Jd Vance also criticized the progress of the conversations and said this would be the moment of the “final step” to the end of the conflict.
“We present a very clear proposal to both Russians and Ukrainians, and it is their time to say yes or the US leave this process. We engage in an extraordinary amount of diplomacy and fieldwork,” says Vance.
The White House guarantees less and less space for negotiations for peace. Trump Secretary of State Marco Rubio canceled a meeting over the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that would take place in London. The negotiations would involve a group of European diplomats and the White House special envoy to deal with the conflict, Steff Witkoff, who was not in the United Kingdom either.
Witkoff, however, kept Moscow a marked view later this week. On the other hand, Marco Rubio’s team attributes the secretary’s absence to logistical issues, but did not specify what problems faced.
The lack of progress in negotiations happens at the same time that Russia intensifies attacks against Ukraine after a truce on Easter holiday. Nine people died after a Russian drone hit a passenger bus. Another drone attack left two people injured and damaged civil infrastructure in the cities of Odessa and Kharkiv.
