“In the eyes of the child who gave me the cookies I saw hope”, said the head of the EKAV who helped in the earthquake in Turkey

Sokratis Doukas, head of ETIK – EKAV who participated in the rescues in Turkey after the killer earthquakedescribed what he experienced, while emphasizing that he “saw hope” in the eyes of a child, who offered him cookies, while he was looking for trapped people.

Speaking to Mega, he said that “we know that when we go to such situations as the earthquake, it is certain that we will have bad pictures. I remember this little boy who offered the cookies. Through the eyes of this child I saw hope.”

He also added that “a turkish rescuer took off his jacket and gave it to me to keep warm. On the last day this happened, and the operation had lasted more than 12 hours, and then a Turk gave me his jacket as a gift of gratitude.”

It is amazing that the Turks sent us messages on social media, which said “you are our brother”, “our houses are open for you”. It was a hug, their approach was very warm, especially when they heard that we were Greeks. From the beginning, the environment was friendly,” he added later.

Also, among other things, he mentioned that “when a business was being carried out, we had to deal with relatives as well as the homeless. We had to provide medical services to them as well. Assisting in the EMAK rescue operation, taking care of the trapped and the others. At some point we will leave, the work of ETIK-EKAB will always be timeless”.
