In the 1st quarter of 2024, national cinema already exceeds attendance in 2023

At the first quarter of 2024 the public of Brazilian movies already overcome the accumulated number for the entire year 2023 .

While the accumulated audience for the entire year 2023 (considering 53 weeks) was 3.7 million people, the accumulated audience until this Wednesday, March 27th (11 weeks), was already 5.5 million viewers.

When comparing the same periods of the year, 2023 had an audience of 255,475 people.

Marcos Barros, president of the Brazilian Association of Multiplex Operating Cinema Exhibition Companies (Abraplex), assesses the scenario.

“It’s exciting to see national cinema performing so well. Among the ten most watched films in 2024 so far, three are Brazilian. This result, with no screen quota in effect, certainly shows the strength of our audiovisual”, he comments.

Of the 273 national productions shown in 2023, national cinema raised R$67.15 million.

Meanwhile, just 70 Brazilian productions in the first three months of 2024 were responsible for a revenue of R$105.9 million.

National production corresponded to 24.5% of the films shown in the country's cinemas until March. In the entire year 2023, national production corresponded to just 3.2% of total exhibitions.
