With yet another sign against the privatization of the Santos station, the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, will carry out on his own one of the main works that were foreseen in the project, a tunnel connecting the municipalities of Santos and Guarujá.
An old claim from Baixada Santista, the work is budgeted at around R$ 3 billion and should be included next week in a list of the Partnership Program.
In the project that had been defended by Tarcísio, the tunnel would be built with funds from the concessionaire that won the auction. It was the main benefit of privatization for the local population of the process. To go from one city to another, you need to take a ferry or go along a 43 km long road. The plan is for the tunnel to be 1.7 km long.
Tarcísio was with the Minister of Ports and Airport, Márcio França, this Wednesday in Brasília. In the conversation, the minister, who has an electoral base in Baixada Santista, said once again that he was against privatization. He had already spoken out against it even before the new federal government took office.
The idea now of the government of São Paulo is to move forward with the work but to continue trying to convince Lula to privatize the port.
