The death toll from the collapse of the nightclub in Santo Domingo has increased to 231, according to the Interior Minister of the Dominican Republic today. “We have confirmed that 231 people were killed in this accident,” Faride Raful told a press conference, stating that 221 were found dead at the tragedy and ten injured lost the battle to keep them alive. Another 12 injured are still hospitalized and three of them remain in critical condition. The disaster, considered the greatest tragedy of the century in the Dominican Republic, exceeds the number of dead in the 2005 fire in a prison in the eastern part of the country, when 136 prisoners had lost their lives.
