Two skyscrapers will be covered with thousands of trees Dubai by the Italian architectural firm Stefano Boeri Architteti, who adapted the idea of the “Vertical Forest” to them.
The project was announced during COP27, the latest Climate Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and consists of two skyscrapers that taper as they rise, at 190 meters and 150 meters respectively. In total, they will incorporate 2,640 trees and 27,600 shrubs into the facades, along with “a system of greenhouses and hydroponic gardens.”
According to the office, the project with them skyscrapers was commissioned by investment initiative Impact One to bring the benefits of ‘urban forestry’ to Dubai.
The project “represents the first “Vertical Forest” model for the MENA region (including the Middle East and North Africa) with the aim of incorporating the benefits of urban forestry, such as the absorption of very small dust particles, microclimate regulation and the reduction of the greenhouse effect” said the office.
The architectural firm Stefano Boeri Architetti was founded in 2011 by Stefano Boeri. Today, his headquarters are in Milan, but he works from Shanghai and Tirana.
