Tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians were seen carrying their belongings this Monday (27) as they walked along the edge of Wadi Gaza, towards the north of the enclave.
Israel opened roadblocks after the militant group Hamas agreed to hand over Israeli hostage Arbel Yehud and two others.
Witnesses reported that the first residents arrived in Gaza City early in the morning, after the first crossing point in the center of the territory opened at 7am local time. Another crossing was supposed to open at 9am.

The measure brokered by Qatar and Egypt would allow some 650,000 Palestinians in the center and south of the Gaza Strip to return to their homes in the north of the enclave, most of which had been devastated by Israel’s 15-month air and ground offensive.
More than 47,000 Palestinians were killed in the offensive, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
Hamas took around 250 hostages during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, in which at least 1,200 people were killed, according to Israeli counts. It triggered the latest bloodshed in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The fighting is currently paused amid a ceasefire agreement.
