The actress Fernanda Torres 58, became one of the highlights of the Venice Film Festival, this past Sunday (1st), after the screening of “I’m Still Here” a feature film directed by Walter Salles. The story is inspired by the book by the journalist and playwright Marcelo Rubens Paiva published in 2015, which tells of the terrors faced by his family during the military dictatorship.
Son of an engineer and politician Rubens Paiva which will be played in theaters by Selton Mello, and Eunice Paiva shared by Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro, the author told a story about his father’s murder and his mother’s relentless search for her partner.
In addition to the writer, the couple had four other daughters, Vera Sílvia, Maria Eliana, Ana Lúcia and Maria Beatriz. In 1971, during the dictatorship, Rubens and Eunice were arrested along with Eliana, their eldest daughter. While the eldest daughter was released the following morning, Marcelo’s mother spent 12 days in custody. Rubens, it disappeared .
As soon as she regained her freedom, Eunice Paiva began a search for her husband’s whereabouts, asking the Brazilian government several times to investigate the civil engineer’s disappearance.
The answer came after more than 40 decades when in 2014, the National Truth Commission, responsible for investigating the disappearances, confirmed the death of Rubens Paiva, in January 1971, after being tortured.
This past Sunday (1st), the film “I’m Still Here” received a 10-minute standing ovation and the international press echoed the title, calling it a “powerful story”, “moving” and “loving”.
