Iginio Massari will open his first restaurant in a former casino on Lake Garda

It seems to be the most impressive project ever, the one with which Iginio Massari obtained the concession for the former Casino of Gardone Riviera, located in an elegant building on Lake Garda. In fact, for the first time, the most famous pastry chef in Italy (with six active shops and two pop up stores in different cities), a regular guest on Masterchef Italia, broadens his vision, moving from pastry making to catering.

The project by Iginio Massari presented to the Municipality of Gardone Riviera, which he had recently auctioned off the management of the historic Palazzo Wimmerin fact, involves the creation of a luxury restaurant, with spaces also dedicated to events and ceremonies. An important planning, to be carried out among other things in record time: the goal of maestro Massari, in fact, is to open by the first half of 2025however, not before having significantly renovated the spaces of the building.

The prestigious property, an Art Nouveau building typical of a certain architecture of this area, it was originally, at the beginning of the twentieth century, a Kurhaus, that is, as a public place intended for the entertainment of those who arrived on Lake Garda for healing purposes, to enjoy the mild and healthy climate. In 1917 the building was purchased by the Municipality and used for events, conferences, concerts and shows. Restored a few years ago, it was auctioned by the Municipality and assigned at the beginning of June to Dama srl, Iginio Massari’s company, for over 160 thousand euros a year.

The idea is probably to create a luxury wedding location, also considering the great popularity that Iginio Massari enjoys in Italy. But not only: Massari wants to set up a fine dining restaurant (in the city that already hosts the highest Italian chef in the ranking of the fifty best restaurants in the world and several other interesting addresses, among other things), and also allocate part of the spaces granted to events and exhibitions organized in agreement with the Municipality.

For those who know the chef well, the choice to open a restaurant rather than a pastry shop is not entirely a surprise, also considering Massari’s latest book, dedicated to savory cuisine and no longer to desserts. «Personally it will be a bit like going back to the origins, given that my mother actually ran a catering business where my love for sweets was born”, declared the Master of Italian pastry making. «Today, as a family we have the know-how, which my children Nicola and Debora bring as a gift, to enter the world of culinary art in a prestigious area long recognized for excellent catering. Moved by the values that we already promote in the pastry sector, we will make the former Casino a place capable of enhancing the beautiful and the goodcelebrated in all their forms.”
