Last year, 467 Greek small and medium-sized enterprises benefited from the use of the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
According to an announcement, for 2022, the fund has improved the conditions of participation of SMEs, with a more significant improvement of the increase of the rate of return of basic fees from 50% to 75%. The financial support that during 2021, the first year of operation of the fund, covered only the applications of designs and trademarks, will now include patent fees with a return of 50%, a fact that is expected to motivate SMEs to take advantage of this as well. the provision of the fund.
This initiative is carried out in cooperation with the national and regional EU Intellectual Property Offices, at national, regional and Community level through the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). In Greece, it is implemented by the Industrial Property Organization (OBI) and the General Secretariat of Commerce of the Ministry of Development and Investment.
The announcement states, regarding the reports, that the data for the support received by Greek small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund for 2021 are positive.
The fund was launched last year with a grant of € 20 million and provides for the provision of intellectual property coupons to SMEs based in the 27 Member States of the European Union (the benefit is offered in the form of a refund). The aim is to help small and medium-sized enterprises develop their intellectual property strategies, to encourage them to protect their rights at national, regional or Community level, and to reap the financial benefits of their protection.
The statement said that many small and medium-sized enterprises understood that intellectual property could help them develop their ideas by creating products and that the titles of their various inventions could be a powerful tool, not only for survival but also for competition and development.
Thus, the economic benefit that Greek small and medium enterprises (SMEs) had in 2021, is reflected as follows:
– A total of 467 Greek SMEs benefited (medium, small, micro), with a return of 50% of the basic deposit fees for their title (industrial design and trademark).
– In general, the order of preference of the titles was 1st the Community mark, 2nd the national mark, 3rd the Community design and 4th the national design.
For the Industrial Property Agency, which during 2021 managed only industrial projects (under the program), 43 national and 68 Community applications have been submitted and joined the fund.
