Ice halo: The impressive and rare natural phenomenon that gave one of the most beautiful Christmas photos

An impressive and rare phenomenon was recorded by the German photographer Bastian Werneroffering one of the most beautiful Christmas pictures.

The phenomenon “ice halo”, an ice fog, it took place in the Allgäu, in southern Germany, and the frame for the wonderful frame was completed by a small church.

As he wrote the photographer had been looking for this phenomenon for about ten years and now he feels very lucky to have finally managed to capture it.

“I was walking in the deep snow when I noticed the ice fog. There was 60-70 cm of snow next to the chapel. I rarely give a 10/10 for a photo of my own, but there really isn’t a better one! For 10 years I have repeatedly gone to areas on foggy days and sub-zero temperatures, but I have never achieved ice fog, not once,” the photographer says in his post, adding:

“Now, when I finally made it, the ice fog was right next to one of the most beautiful photo spots in the Allgäu. The combination of a perfect pattern and then such a rare phenomenon is extremely rare!

Added to this was the last few days’ 60-70cm of fresh snow, which is unusually high down there, so there was a perfect blanket of snow, and the most beautiful backdrop to ‘get away’ from. I’ve been through so much this year, but I never expected to experience something like this!”
