The Brazilian crop of cereals, legumes and oilseeds is expected to close 2022 with a record 278 million tons, a 10% increase compared to the production forecast for this year
This is the second forecast for the year’s crop that has been released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The estimate released today (9) is even more optimistic than the one released in the first forecast, last month, as it increased by 2.7%, or 7.3 million tons, the forecast for 2022.
For next year, increases of 3.4% are expected for soybeans, 13.9% for the first corn crop, 28.4% for the second corn crop and 4.3% for herbaceous cotton . On the other hand, drops of 4.2% for rice and 8.5% for wheat are estimated.
The forecast is that the 2022 harvest ends with 25.2 million tons more than this year, which should close at 252.8 million tons, or 0.5% below the 2020 production.
Despite increases of 10.5% for soybeans, 4.9% for rice and 26% for wheat, this year it should close with drops of 14.6% for corn and 17.6% for the herbaceous cotton.
