Rebel Wilson isn’t so sure why everyone is so obsessed with her image, but she made it clear that losing weight and having a healthier relationship with food was her decision, even when her team assured her it was a bad idea to do so.
During an interview with the BBC, the actress assured that some of her representatives questioned her plan to focus for a whole year on improving the way she ate and exercised, telling her that a large part of her success was when playing “the fat and funny girl.”
My representatives here in Hollywood didn’t want me to do it, when I told them that I was going to take a year off health, that I felt like I could change my life and transform me physically, they told me not to. Because I would do? If she was making millions of dollars playing the funny fat girl.
Fortunately, and despite pressure from her team, Wilson ended up choosing what was best for her. However, although she has managed to lose weight, the actress reaffirmed that she always felt confident about how she looked before and the person she was.
I was someone sure of myself being chubby, and he loved me. I was walking on a red carpet with no problem even though I was probably twice or even triple the weight of some of the actresses I worked with and still, I felt amazing.
For this reason, for her, weight loss was not about being slimmer, but about having better eating habits and accepting that, on more than one occasion, she sought to fill with food certain personal and emotional voids that only affected her mental and physical health.
On the other hand, Wilson stated that since losing weight she has gone from being invisible to being one of the most talked about topics on television shows because of her makeover, which makes her wonder if the only thing a woman can do is lose weight to get attention.
Why are people so obsessed with it? With women, particularly, about how they look. I know what it feels like to be a woman who was essentially invisible to most people because she wasn’t “traditionally beautiful” or whatever. It’s ridiculous trying to fit into that category. It is better to be the best version of yourself that you can be.
