“I hate having expectations. I would hate for this film’s journey to end with the feeling of ‘They don’t get it.’ It’s so hard to predict this year — so many great performances. What I do know is that we did everything we could — screenings, interviews, everything Sony Pictures Classics asked of us. If it happens, it happens. If not, I already feel incredibly honored”, she confesses.

In the publication, Variety also highlights that a possible Oscar nomination would place Fernanda Torres and her mother, actress Fernanda Montenegro, in a “rarefied club of mothers and daughters nominated for the award”. “The distinction would cement her family legacy alongside acting dynasties like Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli, Diane Ladd and Laura Dern, and Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis,” the outlet adds.

In the report, Fernanda Torres still was considered a “national treasure” for Brazil and even mentioned the popularity it has gained throughout the world. “I’ve been around for decades. In Brazil, they know me well. Here, people are finally catching up. Better late than never, right?” he jokes.

In an interview with The New York Times in December 2024, the actress had mentioned that she considered it “impossible” to win the Oscar. However, on the first Sunday of this year, she won the Best Actress statuette at the Golden Globes. International outlets already believe that she will be nominated and other portals are already betting on Torres as one of the favorites for the award.
