“I don’t see that,” says Trump about abuse in prison by El Salvador

President Donald Trump today minimized concerns about human rights abuse in prison in El Salvador where a man who was deported by mistake of the US government is detained.

Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One at night that the arrest houses “some of the worst people in the world.”

When asked about his message to El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, and if he is concerned about prison abuses, Trump replied, “No, I think he’s doing a fantastic job.” Trump should meet Bukele on Monday (14) at the White House.

“He is solving many problems we have and that we wouldn’t really be able to solve, from the point of view of costs,” Trump said about the Salvadoran leader.

Upon being pressured again about the allegations of abuses to human rights, he replied, “I don’t see that.”

Maryland’s salvadoran remains stuck

Trump’s comments take place amid the increase in public outrage by Kilmar Abrago Garcia’s arrest at the facilities of the gigantic Cecot Prison in El Salvador.

Abrego Garcia received protection status granted by an immigration judge in 2019, which prohibited the federal government from deporting him to El Salvador-a country which, according to his lawyers, he fled over a decade due to gang violence.

The Trump administration stated in a document filed yesterday that Abago Garcia is “alive and safe” at Cecot, but has not included any update on government efforts to bring him back to the United States, as ordained by a judge.
