“I cried after some scenes,” says Fernanda Torres about “I’m still here”

In a new interview to talk about the Brazilian movie “I’m still here” the actress FERNANDA TORRES 59, commented on the emotional burden he carried after playing the character Eunice Paiva. The artist competes for the category of Best actress at Oscar 2025 .

“While I played Eunice, there was more than time I cried after a few scenes because it was too heavy to carry this burden with self-control, with a smile,” Torres said in an interview with the American portal Letterboxd published Friday (7 ).

The artist’s performance was widely highlighted by critics specialized by the “subtlety” in demonstrating the harsh reality of Eunice Paiva.

By continuing to talk about the filming set experience, Torres revealed other details that were unpublished in his career as an actress.

“There was the possibility of making prison scenes first, but Walter Salles [diretor] I always said no. He always said, ‘There is no other way to make this movie except chronologically.’ It’s funny, because it really helped me. The day I saw Selton saying goodbye, I looked at him and said, ‘I will miss my friend so much,’ because we are friends. I felt lonely when he left. That house was a wonderful place to film, being able to go to that set in my city every day… And then, one day, it was as if I had been kidnapped from that place to go to this horrible prison, ”she said.

“When I returned home, I was a different person. Having this experience as an actress – not just for me, but for all the actors in the movie – it was like having a mirror for the characters’ experience. It helped a lot in terms of building this sense of honesty and truth in the movie. It’s something I had never dealt with a character before and allowed me to explore much deeper emotions as an actor than I would have in a normal melodrama, ”he added.

“I’m still here” is an adaptation of the book of the same name written by Marcelo Rubens Paiva. The story takes place in the 1970s, in the most intense period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, and accompanies the trajectory of the Paiva family, composed by Rubens (played by Selton Mello), Eunice (lived by Fernanda Torres) and her children.

The life of the family transforms completely when, on a fateful day, Rubens Paiva is taken by military personnel and disappears without leaving traces .

The cast also has Valentina Herszage (“They for them”), MAEVE JINKINGS (“Toll”), Antonio Saboia (“Private Desert”), Olivia Torres (“Continent”), Humberto Carrão (“Aquarius”), Dan Stulbach (“Passionate Women”), Charles Fricks (“Earth and Passion”), Luiz Bertazzo (“Baby”), Caio Horowicz (“Mouth to mouth”), Daniel Dantas (“Catch caught) and more.
