When presenting the winner of the Best Director award at Bafta 2024 this Sunday (18), Hugh Grant channeled his role as Oompa Loompa, in “Wonka”, and sang the result.
“Oompa Loompa doompety dee, now the Best Director category. Oompa Loompa doompety dong, most of these movies were frankly too long. Oompa Loompa doompety dah, but for some reason the nominees are…” Grant recited, imitating his character’s song.

Grant then announced the nominees: Andrew Hiagh, for “All Us Strangers”, Justine Triet, for “Anatomy of a Fall”, Alexander Payne, for “The Rejected”, Bradley Cooper, for “Maestro”, Christopher Nolan, for “Oppenheimer” and Jonathan Glazer, for “Zone of Interest”.
The category winner was Nolan, who highlighted the fight against nuclear weapons in his speech.
Nolan's film, “Oppenheimer”, which portrays the story of the inventor of the atomic bomb, physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, was the big winner of the night at Bafta 2024, taking home seven awards.
