Huge update to Microsoft OneDrive. Files up to 250 GB

Microsoft has announced a big update to its OneDrive cloud storage, which will appeal to those who store large, more precisely, very large files.

Back in July last year, Microsoft increased the maximum upload file size from 15 GB to 100 GB, and now OneDrive and SharePoint users will be able to upload files up to 250 GB.

This innovation will be appreciated by users who need cloud storage for long 8K video files, large datasets and other information. Microsoft cites an ultra-high-definition family video album or an archive with a large computer game as examples.

Differential synchronization should make it relatively easy to manage these files. Without it, you would have to download the full file size every time you edit it. Microsoft claims that these large files are “split into pieces” and encrypted with a unique key. Support for larger files will begin later this month and will be generally available by the end of the quarter.
