An Iraqi security source told CNN this Friday (19) that five explosions occurred at a military base of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), which is supported by Iran, in the province of Babylon, south of the capital Baghdad.
This happened in an ammunition depot, according to the source, who did not provide details such as the cause of the explosion.
Two other PMF sources and two Iraqi security sources also reported the explosion to the Reuters news agency.
There were no victims, but material damage was reported, according to Reuters.
Sources from the Popular Mobilization Forces pointed out that attacks targeted a PMF headquarters at the Kalso military base, near the city of Iskandariya, about 50 km south of Baghdad.
Government officials did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The PMF began as a grouping of armed factions, many of them close to Iran, which was later recognized as a formal security force by Iraqi authorities.
Factions within the PMF participated in months of rocket and drone attacks against US forces in Iraq during Israel's campaign in the Gaza Strip, but stopped carrying out such actions in February.
