Huawei localizes server production in Russia

According to Kommersant, Huawei has agreed with the domestic manufacturer of telecommunications equipment Sitronics on the joint development of servers. Representatives of both companies confirmed the information.

Huawei provides the components of the element base, shares its expertise, and conducts training for specialists. According to representatives of Sitronics, the first batch will be released in May, which will include 2,500 servers. They will run on Intel processors, later it is planned to adapt Russian software for building data storage systems (DSS) based on this equipment.

Denis Dubinin, business development manager for IT solutions at Huawei Enterprise, said that now localized Huawei servers occupy less than 1% of the Russian market. The company expects that the equipment will receive domestic status.

Huawei localizes server production in Russia

Previously, Huawei planned to localize server production in Russia together with Norsi-Trans. MTS and its subsidiary provider MGTS could become one of the potential customers of Norsi-Trans equipment based on Huawei solutions. Norsi-Trans produced a small batch of servers with Huawei in 2019, but they were not very popular due to the high price.

By the end of 2020, the Russian server hardware market reached $ 1.3 billion, which is 18.2% more than a year earlier. The leaders were the American Dell and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, as well as Huawei. IDC names Yadro as the largest domestic server manufacturer.
