The Met Gala is traditionally held on the first Monday in May. This year's event will take place on Monday 6 May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, near Central Park on the Upper East Side of New York. The ultra-exclusive event is much more than a glamorous evening: it's a ticketed fundraiser to support the Costume Institute's exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, operations and more. The event also marks the opening of the Costume Institute's spring exhibition.
As for the clothing of the participants, the dress code of the Met Gala 2024 is the “Garden of Time”, the “Garden of Time”, inspired by a 1962 story by JG Ballard. Like every Met Gala theme, it is open to free interpretation by the evening's guests and could propose looks with colorful flowers, ivy garlands and sensational watches. The theme «Garden of Time» connects to the Costume Institute's spring exhibition, «Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion». With around 250 objects, the exhibition hopes to «reactivate the sensorial power and attractive force of the masterpieces of the museum's collection through first-hand research, conservation analysis and diverse technologies – from cutting-edge tools, such as intelligence artificial and computer-generated images up to traditional museum, will serve as a metaphor for “the fragile and ephemeral essence of fashion”.
The Met Gala red carpet is one of a kind: each guest is assigned a time slot for their entrance. Arrivals on the Met Gala red carpet usually begin around 5.30pm and often feature the event's hosts. The co-chairs of the 2024 Met Gala are Anna Wintour, Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth And Bad Bunny, While Shou Chew, CEO of TikTok, e Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Loewe, will be the honorary presidents.
