How to use Lost Mode on iPhone? See tutorial

Lost your cell phone and don’t know what to do? A CNN explain it to you.

If you have an iPhone, you can activate Lost Mode. As a result, the cell phone is locked and shows a message written by the owner, which could be, for example, a phone number to contact. (See tutorial below).

The tool can also be used on other Apple products, such as iPad, iPod, Macbook and Apple Watch.

How to activate Lost Mode

  1. Under Find Devices on iCloud.com, select your device from the list “All devices” to the left
  2. click in “Mark as lost”
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen, remembering that:

Code and password: If your device has a code, you will need it to unlock your device. Otherwise, you will be asked to create a new code

Family Sharing: If you are trying to put a family member’s device into Lost Mode and the device does not have a password set, the person’s Apple ID password must be entered on this computer

Contact information: If you are asked to enter a phone number, enter a number at which you can be contacted. If you need to enter a message, you can indicate that the device is lost or how to contact you. The number and message appear on the device’s lock screen

What happens when you use Lost Mode or lock a lost device?

  • A confirmation email is sent to your Apple ID email address
  • You can create a message for the device that is lost and how to contact you
  • For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and Apple Watch, your device will not display alerts or make sounds when you receive messages or notifications, or if any alarms are turned off. The device will still be able to receive phone calls and FaceTime
  • For an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch, you’ll see the device’s current location on the map, as well as any changes to its location
  • For applicable devices, payment cards and other services will be suspended
