How to choose and taste a bottle of Champagne

The Christmas is upon us and with him, despite the special period, the desire to maintain positive morale with i auspicious toast. Whether they are live with family or video call with friends, it is Champagne has always been the best choice to toast. But which bottle to buy? What is there to know? And above all, how to taste it to fully enjoy the most famous French wine there is? We asked Domenico Avolio, since 2003 Director of the Bureau du Champagne Italia, an institution founded in our country in 1976 which officially represents the Champagne Committee based in Epernay, to guide us and provide us with the rules so as not to make mistakes.

The Comité not only brings together all the winemakers and all the maison of the Champagne region, but represents an instrument of economic, technical and environmental development, conducting a policy of constant quality and enhancement of the common heritage of the appellation.
One of the latest projects, useful and interesting for all champagne lovers, is the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), a course designed for professionals and enthusiasts who wish to deepen their knowledge of the king of wines. Led by Jérémy Cukierman, Master of Wine 2017, it lasts about five hours, accessible 24 hours a day and seven days a week, is divided into 54 videos divided into four thematic areas; the Premium version includes a cost of 49 euros and multiple contents lasting a further five hours developed through interviews with starred chefs, historians, researchers, sommeliers and Champagne producers. After passing the final test, the Comité Champagne will issue the “Champagne MOOC Certificate”. Registration is free on www.champagne-mooc.com.
