How plurality can enhance results and innovation

Expert XP 2022 started this Wednesday (3), in São Paulo. The event, which returned to face-to-face this year, discusses investment, entrepreneurship, technology, ESG and innovative actions. On the first day, the theme of the lecture was “Diversity vs. Innovation: how plurality enhances results ”. Activists like the Paralympic medalist Veronica Hippolytus discussed how changes in corporate actions, through the promotion of plurality, can contribute to promising achievements.

On the panel, the CEO and founder of the NGO Voz das Comunidades, Rene Silva highlighted the talents of the periphery, which have the potential to boost the Brazilian economy. Renê, who was born in Morro do Adeus, a favela in Complexo do Alemão, in Rio, commented that social transformations are being limited by misguided interventions.

It’s no use arriving only with the police inside the favelas, you have to increase investment in the area of technology and finance within them. How will we see change if we are not causing this change? How are we going to see this happen?

He also highlighted that the corporate action reduced the bureaucracy of the process of managing the crisis caused by the pandemic in the country’s slums. In this way, the association between companies can contribute to the success of investments in diversity.

For the diversity and inclusion partner at XP, Ana Melo this is a favorable space for the changes sought: “Peripheries are the environments that most promote innovation”. This is because, according to Melo, despite the favelas being places lacking public policies, people are looking for ways to live and access what they want.

Who also gave voice to the defense of social agendas at the event was the Paralympic athlete Veronica Hipólito. After becoming a person with a disability as a result of a stroke, she came to understand even more how talking about ableism is indispensable to promoting the development of innovation through diversity. She recalls that PCDs struggle to show that they are a great power and, for that, it is necessary to guarantee accessibility. “People are the main assets. That now we start to transform and do it for real“, said Hipólito during the lecture.

One of the ways to contribute to these new changes in the market is through breaking behavioral patterns early on, in hiring, as Thienne Czizeweski, leader of talent intelligence at XP, says.

Companies with diverse people in the process will have more inclusive products.

For those who do not experience realities like this, it can be even more challenging to talk about plural subjects. Therefore, another powerful voice has joined the team of speakers: Ricardo Silvestre.

The CEO and founder of the main agency for black creators, Black Influence, reinforced that working with diversity is an investment, because consumers have increasingly demanded it: “Companies that don’t work with this are losing money. Who invests, reaps the fruit quickly”, completes.
