Honda recently announced the commissioning of a $124 million state-of-the-art wind tunnel. According to the manufacturer, this is the most advanced wind tunnel in the world. It can carry out three types of testing – aerodynamic, aeroacoustic and racing. The Honda Automotive Laboratories of Ohio (HALO) facility is located at the independent Transportation Research Center in Central Ohio.

As stated, the HALO multifunctional complex will help create serial vehicles and racing cars. It has a five moving belt system for testing production vehicles and a second one wide belt system for testing sports and racing cars. The maximum speed of the air flow created by a 12-blade fan with a diameter of 8 m, driven by an electric motor with a power of 5 MW, is 310 km/h. The diameter of the platform for the car is 12 m. It can be rotated within 180 °.


The Acoustic Test Mode, which takes less than an hour to switch to, uses a sophisticated array of microphones and cameras to collect real-time data and make accurate measurements. It allows you to evaluate the noise generated by the movement of the vehicle outside and inside it, and quickly determine their sources.
