The Environmental Military Police (PMA) confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man after being attacked by a jaguar in an isolated area of the dead bull region, approximately 150 kilometers from Miranda, Mato Grosso do Sul.
The occurrence was recorded on the morning of last Monday (21), after a local fishing guide, who headed for the ranch where Jorge Avalo worked as a home, strange his absence and finding traces of blood and large animal animal footsteps. A video recorded by residents of the region shows the tracks left by the animal. Watch video:
Security cameras also recorded the jaguar walking around the region. Watch video:
Teams from the Corumbá, Miranda and Aquidauana Military Police were fired and went to the scene, difficult to reach, using vessels and aircraft. On the morning of Tuesday (22), the homemade remains were located by police, family members and guides of the region, in a Mato Capão about 280 meters from the ranch.
Criminal expertise confirmed, based on the state of the body and evidence, that the attack was caused by the jaguar. The case remains under investigation, and the authorities consider hypotheses such as food scarcity, defensive behavior, reproductive period of the animal – when males tend to become more aggressive – or some involuntary attitude of the victim who may have triggered the attack.
