Holidays, heat and Taylor Swift fill hotels in Rio de Janeiro

American singer Taylor Swift takes the stage to perform her first show in Brazil on “The Eras Tour” this Friday (17), in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. When combined with the heat wave that hits the country and the November holidays, the hotel sector in Rio de Janeiro was impacted and is practically full.

In addition to the two holidays (November 15th and 20th) that boost tourism, Rio de Janeiro also faces very hot days. According to Climatempo, the highest temperature of the year can be recorded this Saturday (18), with 42ºC. This Friday, the thermometers reached 40ºC and the thermal sensation was more than 59ºC.

According to the president of the Brazilian Federation of Accommodation and Food (FBHA), Alexandre Sampaio, all these factors contributed to occupancy exceeding 95% in the south zone of the capital. He even divides the numbers between the neighborhoods of Rio:

  • Barra da Tijuca: approximately 92% occupancy
  • Center: 90% occupancy
  • Flamengo/Botafogo: 87% occupancy

According to the Hotel Association of the State of Rio de Janeiro, the average occupancy rate of hotels in the wonderful city is 97.03%. Among Rio’s neighborhoods, Barra da Tijuca, São Conrado, Flamengo, Botafogo, Ipanema, Copacabana and Centro are the most sought after and have the highest occupancy rate.

In addition to the fact that holidays combine with heat and the beach, the Taylor Swift effect is also noticed in the country. Last Thursday (16), even Christ the Redeemer held a welcome tribute for the singer. In exchange for the projection, fans collected more than 20 thousand panettone kits and mineral water to help people in vulnerable situations.
