Heat wave illustrates possible climate change impacts for US and China

A heat wave, accompanied by low humidity and massive fires, wreaked havoc in several countries around the world during the current summer season in the northern hemisphere. High temperatures and problems with energy supplies also hampered industrial activity, trade and agricultural production in affected countries, including Europe and political opponents China and the United States.

The increasing frequency of extreme weather events is seen as a consequence of global warming and has already been the reason for warnings made by the scientific community. Studies project that climate change could cause a 4% loss of global economic output by 2050.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of environmental problems in different countries. To describe how the world’s greatest powers have faced the mission of dealing with climate change, the international policy analyst of CNN Lourival Sant’Anna and environmentalist Carlos Bocuhy, president of the Brazilian Institute for Environmental Protection (Proam).
