Health buys 750,000 doses of Coronavac and provides for an agreement of 2.6 million for childhood vaccination

The Ministry of Health signed an agreement for the purchase of another 750,000 doses of the Coronavac vaccine, against Covid-19, produced in Brazil by the Butantan Institute.

According to the ministry, in addition to the agreement signed on Friday (6), a new additive should be signed in the coming days, guaranteeing the purchase of 2.6 million doses in total.

The first doses should be delivered next week and distributed to the states and the Federal District to continue vaccinating children aged 3 to 11 years.

On Friday, the secretary of Health and Environment Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, said that the new team had joined the portfolio amid the shortage of doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 for children and with contracts with Butantan paralyzed.

According to Maciel, there is an expectation that Pfizer will deliver 3.2 million doses for children aged 6 months to 4 years old, and 4.5 million doses to serve the public between 5 and 11 years old by the end of January. .

In a statement, the ministry stated that the department is still negotiating with laboratories to ensure more immunizations for children as soon as possible.
