Harry and Meghan Markle don’t stop. Despite asking the royal family to extend the Megxit’s transition period for another year, in the last days of 2020 they took another step towards economic independence. The Sussexes, in fact, have released the first installment of their podcast, which is part of the deal with Spotify from 40 million dollars.
The first episode lasts 33 minutes and is a “holiday special” that ends with the gospel song This Little Light of Mine, which was played at the end of their marriage in May 2018.
Meghan also quotes her idol Martin Luther King as she tells listeners that: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do it“. Harry and Meghan also invited their famous friends – from Sir Elton John to Brené Brown, from Deepak Chopra to Stacey Abrams, from James Corden to Tyler Perry to reflect on 2020 and the good resolutions for 2021. The podcast closes with the words of the prince and the former actress. “For our part, I will say that no matter what life holds, guys, trust us when we say” love wins “”, says Meghan. “Love always wins”, adds Harry, certainly in relation to the pandemic year, but also – royal fans point out – to their new life away from the royal family.
But the special and most unexpected guest is another: Archie, a year and a half, the couple’s firstborn. The royal baby can be heard in the last minutes, between a laugh from the parents. Baby Archie, spurred on by Harry and Meghan, repeats: «Happy New Year!», and it is impossible not to notice how the child – who has lived between Canada and California since last December – already has a strong American accent. Similar to that of mom Meghan.
Prince Harry, on the other hand, speaks with his usual very British accent (and royal). Meghan’s voice is empathetic, warm, and perfect for entertaining audiences, the earliest listeners point out.
