Germany’s airline industry considers the gradual abolition of Russian oil imports planned by the European Union manageable, although Berlin airport will be hit hardest by others, the German newspaper Handelsblatt reported on Tuesday, according to Reuters.
“As things stand, in the event of an embargo on Russian oil, we expect to be able to ensure a sufficient supply of kerosene to most German airports,” Matthias von Randow, chief executive of BDL, told Handelsblatt.
He added that the situation at Berlin Airport would be more difficult, as it depended heavily on supplies from the Schwedt refinery, which now relies on Russian oil, and would need alternative supplies.
“According to our information, the oil companies are working on it,” said Matthias von Randow.
The German Airports Association (ADV) and the German airline Lufthansa also told the newspaper that they were confident that lost Russian oil supplies could be replaced by other sources.
